One of the bigger towns in Djibouti, Goubétto is situated in the Ali Sabieh region. It is well-connected with the rest of the country through the Ethio-Djibouti Railways. Regardless of the reason for your move to Goubétto, you need to prioritize your requirements and having your own vehicle is essential.
As the public transport isn’t reliable and you might face language barriers, it is safest to commute the city in your own vehicle. Instead of buying a new imported car in Djibouti, it is much cheaper to import your car from USA. This holds true whether you intend staying here for a few months or for a number of years.
The process of auto import.
Due to the constant changes in law and regulations related to import of vehicles, it is imperative to check with the Djibouti Customs Authority. Additionally, it is imperative to work with a company that has extensive experience in shipping vehicles to Djibouti. And at A1 Auto Transport service, we have been shipping vehicles internationally for over 25 years and understand all aspects of dealing with customs and the related procedures. However, one of the important steps to consider is documentation. There is plenty of documentation that is required to be submitted to the USA Customs department and Djibouti Customs.
- U.S. issued auto insurance policy.
- Work visa/residence permit.
- Bill of vehicle purchase.
- EIN letter.
- Clear title deed.
- Import permit.
Additionally, you can check the details with the Djibouti Consulate in USA before you ship your vehicle. Though you are only allowed to import vehicles that are left-hand drive, other related auto import laws aren’t that stringent. We are aware of all laws and regulations and will be able to assist you with all the legal requirements. As per law, the capacity of the engine forms the basis of the import duty. Cars with engine capacity of 1300cc need to pay 30% taxes; with engine capacity of over 1300cc is charged 60%. While vehicles with over 1800cc have to pay 100% duty and the other taxes are based on CIF. If you are looking for a free quote, call in A1 Auto Transport service. We’ll be able to assist you with the cost of the shipping based on the method of shipment you select.
However, we’ll offer you a free quote based on the method of shipping that you decide on. There are two common methods that you have to select from. These are:
RORO: This is the cheapest way to transport your vehicle to Djibouti. As you only have to pay for the parking bay, it turns out least expensive. Your car is driven on the deck, harnessed in place and when it reaches the port of Djibouti, it will be driven off the ship. Though you have to disable alarms, remove personal items, clean the vehicle before it is shipped. And only an empty vehicle can be shipped.
Container shipping: This is good if you have an expensive vehicle or a lot of personal goods and possessions that you plan on shipping to Goubétto. You can hire 20 feet or 40 feet containers and pack everything in it.
