Documents that are required

You will be required to have certain documents to provide to customs when your vehicle reaches Durban. The required documents are:

  • Temporary License
  • Original Bill of Sale
  • Passport
  • Import Permit
  • Original Vehicle Registration
  • Forms D.A. 304A and P1.160 (three copies of each)

Documents required prior to Shipping

When shipping a car to any country internationally, including   Durban, there are documents that you will need to have filled out prior to being able to ship. These are the required documents that you will need to have:

  • Driver’s License
  • Original Bill of Sale
  • Social Security Card
  • Signed Power of Attorney warrant if you will not be with the car at the port of exit

If other paperwork is needed prior to shipping, the transport agent will be able to go over all of that information with you in detail. The transport agent will also be able to go over the port nearest your home to take the car to for shipping as well as the port of entry in Durban. Before you export your car from the U.S. you need to make sure you get a final quote from the agent that includes the cost of shipping, container fee is you choose to ship by container, pick-up and delivery fee if they will need to pick-up and drop-off your car for you. The agent will also go over the different methods of shipping and the cost of each type.

Methods of Shipping Cars

RoRo Shipping- RoRo is the least inexpensive method of shipping your car to Durban. RoRo ships deliver cars, trucks, vans and other wheeled vehicles. Cars are safely driven aboard at the exit port and driven off at the entry port in Durban.

Container Shipping- Container shipping simply means you can have your car shipped inside of a container for international shipping purposes. Container shipping takes a little longer than RoRo Shipping because customs will have to inspect the containers. When you ship via container you can also ship personal and household goods along with your car internationally.

Air Shipping- Shipping by air is the fastest way to have your car shipped internationally. The car is loaded onto a cargo plane and flown to the Durban/King Skanska International Airport in Durban.

To find out more about the documents you will need prior to shipping your car, and other useful information on shipping and customs regulations when traveling internationally you can contact the U.S. Customs office for exportation laws in the U.S. and import regulations for Durban, South Africa as well as other cities and countries around the world.

Satisfied Customers

“I am meticulous when it comes to everything. At first, I was thinking of just driving all the way to Illinois from New Jersey. A friend recommended me to go to A1 Auto Transport and told me a lot of good things about them. I refused initially because I had filed a 4 day leave just to drive and visit my mother. But things did not go well. My boss asked me to cancel my leave because a very important client asked for an urgent meeting, and the manager could not attend to it. I was hopeless and took the risk of asking help from A1. The notice was short and I forgot I needed to inform them in advance. After a couple of hours, I received a call and they told me they found a way to book me with no extra fees. I am so thankful I got to attend to my work matters. I did not get to see my mother, but the vehicle and items inside it were in perfect condition as if it was me who took care of it. I owe you guys big time! I got one huge deal from our client.”

“A1 Auto Transport was recommended to me by a cousin who had a roommate that moved to LA after graduating from university and was apparently very happy with their service. So, when my father-in-law needed a transport company to deliver a vintage car for his best friend’s 60th birthday, I thought I’d give them a call and see what they had to offer. I have to admit it worried me a lot because I wasn’t sure they’ll be up for the job: we’re talking about a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado that he and his buddy had been trying to restore for the last couple of months, blood, sweat, and tears and all. So no, we ain’t using an old rickety trailer to haul that baby out to Georgia in time for him to blow out his sixty birthday candles. A1 Auto Transport’s got these cool, modern enclosed transport trucks for the job. Their team offered a competitive shipping cost and assured us the car would be delivered safe to its destination. And you know what? They did. It was crazy. They understood how important and beloved that car is to its owners. It was a happy day and a very happy birthday to his best bud indeed.”

“I got a ton of quotes from companies and brokers until I got to A1 Auto Transport. Brokers were quite sneaky. The rate was good, but it wasn’t the actual quote. They mentioned the driver or their commission only, so there was bound to be more I had to pay down the line. I got just one decent quote, but the timing wasn’t right. He could only pick up my car on Monday, and I needed it to leave for Georgia on Friday. After this company, I tried A1 Auto Transport. I called Joe on Tuesday, and he answered promptly. He agreed to pick my car on Friday and offered to do it sooner. But since I needed it until then, I insisted on my date and he did as I wanted. The driver got it delivered on Saturday, as promised, but 20 minutes early. I’ve heard stories of car transports being delayed for several days due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, so I was glad this did not happen to me. I’m very happy with the service, and although I don’t have any other cars to move in the foreseeable future, I’ll remember A1 Auto Transport just in case.”

“I though taking my car to Connecticut was going to be the most difficult part of the move. And until I found Joe and A1 Auto Transport, it was. Fortunately, from that point forward it was handled flawlessly. A month ago, I tried a website which promised to find me a company with great rates. More than a dozen carriers took me up on the offer, so I chose the one that was the cheapest. Instead of showing up, he called on the shipping date to tell me his truck is getting repairs. I waited 2 more days before finally cancelling the order. I lost a week pointlessly, and my family and I were supposed to move 2 weeks later. I searched some more and chose a broker with a seemingly good reputation. After a week of waiting, I finally stopped waiting for him to find me a truck. Finally, a work colleague to which I was complaining about the situation, recommended A1 Auto Transport. He’d used them in the past and recommended them with a ‘thumbs up.’ I called Joe that same day. He told me it was peak shipping season. Some companies, instead of telling you they’re full, may choose to simply let you wait in case one of their other clients cancels. Fortunately, he had a truck available, and he sent it my way immediately. In a couple of hours, my car was on its way to Connecticut.”

“I had difficulties in providing the details online, so I decided to call A1 Auto Transport's hotline. I’m an old lady and I needed someone to guide me on how to ship my vehicle. A1 did not take advantage of my age in processing the transaction. My husband was surprised I was able to send him our 1999 Mercedes Benz to Maryland in the exact condition as before it left our vacation house. It was a memorable vehicle, his anniversary gift to me. I am delighted by the staff of A1 Auto Transport. I wish you more years, so you could assist old people like me.”
