In the majority of cases the vehicles are shipped to ports in China – the Tianjin or the Quingdao port. From there, the shipment is properly moved within a truck to Mongolia. The documents are rather basic and they are as follows:
- Inventory list.
- Proof of owning the car for 6 months at least.
- Bill of Sale.
It’s important to know that only personal vehicles can be transported and not those that are going to be used for commercial purposes. You also can’t import a car which is older than 20 years and it has to be left-hand drive.
When dealing with ocean shipment and transporting a vehicle this way, you normally have two options. The first one is the so called roll on-roll of method which would require the car to be driven on to the shipping deck where it would be properly fastened. The second option is by using a shipping container. The latter involves storing your vehicle within a securely locked container. You can also ship other personal items that you wish to get transported along with your car. The fact that Mongolia is a landlocked country means that the shipment would arrive to a designated port in China and it is loaded onto a truck and driven to Choibalsan.
