Every day improvements and breakthroughs are constantly being made in fuel efficiency, technology, and carbon emissions for all different types and sizes of vehicles, from the commuter sedan to the long-haul truck. This is a huge benefit not only to the environment but also to any who have vested interest or business of any kind dealing with Class 8 trucks. A Class 8 truck is defined as a vehicle having a gross vehicle weight rating of 33,000 lbs or more, often this term is used to classify single unit dump trucks and tractor trailers. An obvious “layman” example would be the standard “semi” or “18 wheeler” you pass on the freeway daily which is a 5-axle tractor-trailer combo that falls under the Class 8 truck category.
A1 Auto Transport most definitely has an interest in these developments, as our fleet is made up of Class 8 trucks, which is why we took notice of a cross-country roadshow taking place in September of this year. Run On Less is the first-of-its-kind event showcasing advancements in fuel efficiency. With sponsors like Pepsi and Shell and put on by the Carbon War Room and the North American Council for Freight Efficiency, this will be a flagship occasion that is certain to generate attention all across the country. The roadshow will kick off in multiple locations all over America and will feature six to ten Class 8 trucks dealing with different weather elements, road conditions, and varying altitudes as they make the (up to) three week journey to the North American Commercial Vehicle (NACV) inaugural show in Atlanta, Georgia. The trip for each truck will culminate by September 24th (and the NACV show will last until the 28th), so that results may be announced regarding the best currently available technology. All driver progress will be tracked in real time throughout the entire course by Geotab devices, and up-to-date recordings will be available on the Run on Less website.
