Spain International Moving Services
Relocating to another country is perceived to be a daunting task. A lot of goods need to be transported and a lot of documents have to be processed. It is therefore advisable to seek international moving services from professionals. If you need assistance shipping your car to Spain or transporting your household items or office inventory, a qualified moving company should be up to the task.
How Much Does It Cost to Move to Spain?
The cost of moving internationally to Spain can range anywhere from $2,000-$12,000 depending on various factors such as the move size, total distance, route, transportation method, and current market trends.
When moving, you have to consider the cost of accommodation. If you are looking to move into a two-bedroom in Barcelona, you can expect to pay between $4,400- $6,000. Some have a more prominent family, so they might be looking to move to a 3-4 bedroom apartment which will cost about $12,300- $16,500. You also have to consider other charges like the legal fees, visa fees, moving insurance, shipping rates, travel fee, and storage costs:
Visa Fees
You will be required to pay a fee to submit an application for a Spain visa, which will allow you to visit the country, as well as stay here temporarily or permanently. For an application to be processed, the money for obtaining a visa to enter Spain must first be paid.
The price of a visa to enter Spain might vary significantly based on the kind of visa you wish to obtain, your age, and a few other considerations that are more specific. You will have to pay a cost to the visa application facility on top of the fee for the visa itself. You should budget somewhere between $150 and $600 for this service.
Travel Fees
Moving firms that operate internationally can deliver your belongings, but you must purchase airline tickets. Costs associated with international travel change according to the time of year and the distance traveled. In general, you should plan on spending anything from a few hundred dollars to four thousand dollars, but the exact amount will depend on your destination.
Storage
Yours belongings must be stored somewhere till you return if you aren't planning on moving permanently. Some of your items may need to be held for a while as you arrange your next relocation, even if you are moving for good. While it would be ideal if you could keep your items with a family member, you will need to invest in climate-controlled, long-term storage if that is not an option. Since there is so much competition in this market, costs are kept low, yet storing enough stuff for a 2-bedroom apartment can cost as little as $100 per month and go up as the number of things you have increased.

The duties you’ll pay for household goods
Customs will extend duty exemption on shipments of household belongings, if you meet their required criteria. This includes having bought the items at least six months ago, and personally using them during this period. You also must have been residing outside of Spain for at least the last 12 months. A limit of one year after moving into the country is enforced, after which time duty exemption won’t be available.
Also, be aware that if you don’t yet have a Residence Permit when your shipment is going through customs clearance - then a Bank Guarantee will be required. This is a deposit of 40% - 60% of the shipment’s declared value, and the funds will refunded once you obtain (and show customs) your Residence Permit.
In addition, if you don’t have a Residence Permit when your shipment arrives - then someone from your employer must be present at clearance. A foreigner that has a valid Spanish National Tax Office registration is also acceptable to customs (1).

The documents you’ll need for household goods
A long list of paperwork is required for shipments being processed by customs, including an Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) number. A Certificate of Change of Residence, Declaration of Client (confirming how long you plan to live within Spain) and your passport are also required. Customs will also request a copy of your lease (this must run for at least two years) or purchase contract for a residence in the country.
A customs application requesting duty exemption should be shown as well, plus a detailed inventory. This inventory is to include monetary values, be written in Spanish and bear your signature and the date. Registering with the Spanish Treasury Department is also mandatory, and customs will require written proof that this has taken place (2). Many more documents are compulsory when passing through clearance, and it’s recommended that you contact customs for a full list.
The duties you’ll pay to import a vehicle
It’s uncertain whether duty-free entry of a vehicle into Spain is possible at this time. One source mentions that temporary importation can be performed, without incurring any import duties. However, after six months, the vehicle either must be removed from the country - or any applicable duties for permanent importation must be paid (3).
Another noteworthy source asserts that duty exemption for permanent imports can be obtained. The prerequisite is a six month space from the issuing of the title, until the discharge from the consulate. It also says that having owned the vehicle for a minimum of six months before shipping it to Spain is required. Finally, customs permission for duty-free import before it arrives in port is necessary (4).
The International Association of Movers (a third respected source), has very little to say on the matter of duty exemption (5). Therefore, with such varying information available - you’re advised to simply call customs for a clear-cut answer.

The documents you’ll need to import a vehicle
Be ready to show the vehicle’s title and registration, a Certificate of Conformity and your passport. A receipt for any duty and road tax due is also required, plus personal ID of some kind. The Original Bill of Lading and documents establishing that you’re the vehicle’s owner must be presented as well (6).
When bringing a vehicle into Spain, the purchase receipt and a sheet listing all pertinent technical information are necessary too. Customs also mandates that vehicles adhere to European Union technical requirements (7). You’ll need a valid driver’s license, proof of international insurance coverage and a Certificate of CIF value (apparently this should be issued within Spain). A valid Residence Permit and the vehicle’s license plate number should also be presented to customs (8).
Other documentation, regulation and payment requirements will apply to your shipments, as this treatment of customs procedures isn’t comprehensive. Therefore, speaking with them directly is wise, as they can provide complete details about their clearance process.
