Relocation Moves Serbia

Serbia International Moving Services

Has the time come for you to move to Serbia? International moving is exciting but also very challenging. Indeed, there are various processes involved which include clearing with customs and immigration departments which is not easy. In this article, we will give you important tips to make your move easy; especially, if you are looking for Serbia International Moving Services.

How Much Does It Cost to Move to Serbia?

The cost of moving internationally to Serbia can range anywhere from $2,000-$12,000 depending on a variety of factors such as the size of move, total distance, route, transportation method, and current market trends.

Several factors contribute to the cost of exporting household items to Serbia, including the size of the house that must be emptied before exporting. A two-bedroom home in Serbia can be exported for $3,700 to $10,800.

A number of other factors should be considered as well as the house's size. The packaging and unloading of your items are two crucial factors to consider, as well as international exporters. You must also hire an attorney to represent you.

International Shipping

The key to successfully crossing a foreign border is planning ahead of time. To start, load everything in the car. Relocating internationally will be stress-free if you hire a reputable moving company. Shipping overseas is the most expensive part. Experiencing this can cost up to $10,000.

Lawyer

When it comes to papers, a move to another nation might be complex and difficult. In such instances, legal help is usually sought. These are handled by an attorney. With their experience on hand, the procedure will run much more easily and fast. However, the service will be costly. Hiring a skilled lawyer may cost more or less depending on where you reside and whether you want hourly or case-by-case counsel.

Packing and Unpacking

Packing and unloading can be charged by moving companies, but not always. An international relocation is a good option for people who are frequently moving. Customs clearance is crucial for relocating internationally. Besides ensuring that imported products are legal, a moving firm should also prohibit any illegal products from being delivered.

Many moving companies choose to pack and unload their own belongings as a result. Almost certainly, their firm would suffer a fine if they were found guilty of exporting illegal materials. Additional fees may be incurred in this case. It is still necessary to purchase packing supplies if you prefer to package your own things.

Duties when importing your household belongings

At least according to one competent source, household items can be imported without paying duty or tax. To be eligible, you must have purchased them at least six months ago (and been personally using them during this time). Customs also requires that you’ve been residing outside of Serbia for the last 12 months.

If you are fortunate enough to receive duty exemption, then you can’t sell, lend out to others or get rid of these goods within the country. If you have a temporary Residence Permit, then you will only be allowed to temporarily import your belongings. In this case, upon moving away - all items must be taken with you (or be subject to duty) (1).

The International Association of Movers (another well-informed source), isn’t as clear about duty exemption (2). For this reason, it would be an excellent idea to confirm with customs that exemption is possible for your shipments.

Documents when importing your household belongings

A somewhat sizable list of paperwork is required, when bringing household goods into Serbia. This includes a packing list written in Serbian or English and a Letter of Employment. A full record of all the books included in your shipment (which should list both the title and author) is also mandated by customs.

A Certificate of Import also must be shown, and this can be acquired at the police station in your local municipality. A complete list of all electrical goods is necessary as well, including the serial number, company that makes the item and the model number. A temporary Resident Visa good for over 3 months is needed too, along with your passport and Original Bill of Lading or Air Waybill (3).

A detailed inventory that includes monetary values should be presented, as well as a Power of Attorney (if a third party will be interacting with customs in your stead). Paperwork showing the amount paid to transport your shipment is also compulsory documentation (4).

Duties when importing your vehicle

There are some stipulations imposed by customs, if you wish to receive import duty exemption. First, you must have purchased the vehicle over six months ago. Second, your Residence Permit or Visa must be good for over three months. Finally, customs requires that the vehicle be manufactured less than six years ago. If you meet all of these conditions, it appears that you will be granted exemption.

If you don’t have a Residence Permit for the required timeframe and you didn’t purchase the vehicle over six months ago - then you can still perform a temporary import without paying duty (5). You should also be aware that the International Association of Movers doesn’t concur with this assessment, nowhere mentioning either duties or exemption (6). Again, when there is doubt about duty-free importation policies, you should check with customs directly. Finally, keep in mind that a fee of 3% of the import duties that would have been charged, will apply to duty-free vehicle shipments (7).

Documents when importing your vehicle

Be ready to show your Work Permit, visa and documents confirming residence within the country (presumably a lease agreement or utility bill will suffice). The purchase receipt for the vehicle and certification of the engine displacement are also necessary (8). You’ll need all of the export paperwork issued in your origin country, and inspection documentation verifying that the vehicle meets EURO III technical standards (9).

The vehicle’s title and registration should be provided as well, along with a valid Import Permit. This will be issued by the Institute of Standardization, and you’re instructed to submit an application a minimum of two weeks before the vehicle leaves your origin country. Finally, when bringing a vehicle into Serbia, customs must be given the chassis and engine numbers (10).

This overview is an excellent starting point, when planning your move to Serbia. That said, not every regulation or filing requirement has been covered here. In order to avoid missteps when clearing your belongings through customs, it’s recommended that you speak with them beforehand. Partnering with a reputable international moving company like A1 Auto Transport is also wise - as you certainly don’t want to navigate customs clearance on your own.

Tips on how to make your international move easier

Packing

Start packing early to avoid unnecessary delays. In fact, you can begin preparations about 90 days to the day of moving. Start by sorting out your items and arrange them according to size. As you do so, get rid of those things that you do not need. Indeed, you can donate such to charity.

Also, ensure that you pack heavy items such as books in smaller boxes. As for the lighter items such as clothes, use large boxes. By doing so, no box will be too light thus, none will be crushed. Also, label your boxes to enable ease of identification during loading. While at it, encourage your whole family to engage in the activity to make it faster.

Documents

As an American citizen, you do not need a visa to travel to Serbia for the first 90 days. However, you will need a valid US passport. If you wish to stay longer, contact the Embassy of Serbia for further directions. Find out if you need other documents such as your birth and school certificates.

Banking and insurance

Before you leave, find out if your bank will give you access to your savings while abroad. Also, ensure that your debit and credit cards are valid. Make certain that your bank will handle any regular payments such as an outstanding mortgage.

Also contact your insurance company and ask if your policies are transferable. You can also find out if your health insurance plan is valid abroad. Be sure to ask if you need additional policies such as travel or risk insurance while overseas.

Why you need a professional moving company

As already established, international moving involves a lot of factors coming into play. Obviously, the various tasks involved might be very daunting if handled by an individual. In fact, you face the risk of losing or damaging your valuables.

However, if you hire a professional, you will experience stress-free services. They have the required equipment and trained personnel for the job. They will handle your belongings with care and will ensure that they get to your destination undamaged.

How to find the best international moving company

To get the best mover when looking for Serbia International Moving Services, kindly consider the following:

  • Choose a professional mover that is licensed and has insurance that covers damages on valuables during transit.
  • Compare different rates and choose a company that has a good package at an affordable rate.

There are a lot of options for auto transport these days, which surprisingly makes it harder to find a good company. I received more than 10 offers to ship my car, but I couldn’t decide on any of them... Fortunately, I made the right choice with A1 Auto Transport.
