Qatar International Moving Services
Changes in life and emerging circumstances may cause businesses or individuals to relocate. International moving has become even more common in recent times. Professional and reputable moving companies which offer international moving services assist those making such moves to have a hassle-free experience. You can benefit from such services and ship your car to Qatar in a less complex process and with the much needed guidance.
How Much Does It Cost to Move to Qatar?
The cost of moving internationally to Qatar can range anywhere from $2,000-$12,000 depending on various factors such as the route, size of the move, current market trends, total distance, and transportation method.
The cost of moving to Qatar depends on the factors listed above, with the size of the move being the most significant. To reduce the size of your move, you can get rid of unwanted things by purging your stuff or donating your items to non-profit organizations. You can even sell them online to get more money for your move.
Moving your stuff to Qatar is not a service you want mediocre to handle. You must hand over the job to a professional moving company and speak with your moving company about the process if you're not familiar with it.
Customs and Taxes
For the stuff you'll take to Qatar, you might be required to pay customs duties and taxes. You should note that the taxes you'll be paying would depend on the value of your things, and the exact fee would be at the discretion of Qatar's import policies.
The international moving company you'll partner with will help guide you through this process. They have done this before and have more experience regarding customs and taxes.
Moving Your Car
If you need to love your car from your home country to Qatar, you must understand that not all moving companies can help ship your vehicle. You need to find an auto-transport company that specializes in shipping automobiles. The cost of shipping your car would depend on factors like the size of your vehicle, the distance you need to travel from your pickup location to your delivery location, and the method of shipping you'd employ.
When you get to Qatar, you'd have to obtain a new driver's license as well as register your vehicle and obtain vehicle insurance.

Can import duties be waived on household items?
Used household belongings can be imported without paying duty, if the monetary value is under $800. Above this amount, you’ll pay a 5% duty that will be levied on the designated value (which the Customs Valuation Committee will determine). An additional charge of $175 (called a legalization fee) will be imposed as well. Customs also requires that all paperwork be in the destination agent’s hands a minimum of five days before your shipment enters port. Failure to comply with this regulation could result in extra fees during clearance (1).
Though the International Association of Movers agrees that a 5% duty is typically charged - they do list one possible exception. For goods that enter Doha port by sea later than six months after you relocate to Qatar, duty will be charged. This implies that shipments which arrive in Doha within six months of your move, could be exempted from duty. This is far from certain, however, so you should speak with customs to learn more (2).

What paperwork will you need for household items?
You are required to show your passport and a Residence Permit or Visa. A letter written by you to the destination agent is also necessary, giving them permission to process your goods for entry (3). It seems this letter must be written in Arabic, so you’ll likely need to employ a translator.
A Letter of Employment (or NOC) is also mandatory, though this can also be written by a sponsor within the country. The Original Bill of Lading or Air Waybill for the shipment and a full packing list must be submitted as well (4). Finally, a comprehensive inventory and Employer Attestation will be required (5).
Can import duties be waived on vehicles?
While no duty exemption exists, the current rate is just 5% on vehicle imports. This is extremely reasonable, especially when compared to far higher rates in many other countries around the world. Duty is levied on the vehicle’s value, and the customs agent will decide this figure during clearance (6).
What are the import regulations for vehicles?
You must follow certain rules when bringing your vehicle into Qatar. These include the stipulation that you already be a resident within the country, before registering the vehicle. Also, vehicles manufactured more than five years ago are not eligible for importation. Right-hand drive vehicles or those which don’t adhere to Gulf standards also cannot be brought into Qatar (7). If you have a driver’s license issued in the United States, this is not sufficient to operate the vehicle in Qatar. You’re required to get a permanent license from Qatar instead (8).

What paperwork will you need for vehicles?
You must show both the title and registration, as well as documents proving ownership of the vehicle. A valid passport, the Original Bill of Lading and a copy of your insurance policy are also required. A purchase receipt for the vehicle and your Residence Permit will be requested as well. Finally, an Import Manifest is mandatory documentation (9). You should now have an excellent idea of what to expect, when your shipments pass through customs in Qatar. However, this overview is far from complete - and many other regulations, procedures and filing requirements will apply. For example, bringing in media materials that Qatar deems objectionable, can lead to jail time (10). With such potentially harsh penalties for missteps during clearance, you’re urged to simply contact customs directly. This will ensure that you have all the information you need, to pass through customs without any issues.
Tips on how to make your international move easier
Relocating to any country in the world, Qatar included, is not an easy process. However, you can use the following tips to make your international move easier:
- Conduct research on all that relates to your move so that you may make well informed decisions. There is plenty of information online such as on the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) website.
- Prepare, package and label your valuables properly. This makes them more secure and also makes it easier for the team that will be handling them
- Prepare the required documents well in advance and be ready to present them as and when required for processing.
- Liaising with the moving company. Maintain a good company-client relationship so as to ensure that your move will be executed easily.
