How Much Does It Cost to Move to Marshall Islands?
The cost of moving internationally to Marshall Islands can range anywhere from $2,000-$12,000 depending on various factors such as the size of the move, total distance, route, transportation method, and current market trends.
The Marshall Islands, formally known as the Republic of the Marshall Islands, is a self-governing island nation in Oceania, halfway between Hawaii and the Philippines. Moving to the Marshall Islands can cost as little as $4000 for a two-bedroom apartment and as much as $12,500 for a four-bedroom condo.
The price a consumer will pay to move a set of household belongings is determined by factors such as distance and time of year.
Time of the Year
The time of year influences relocation costs to numerous locations, including the Marshall Islands, because the cost swings all year.
During certain times of the year, the majority of people travel from one country to another. These are known as peak moving periods, and they are associated with higher moving expenditures. International movers are in high demand at this time of year.
Most years, the months of May through September are popular for moving and shipping. As a result, finding a mover might be difficult at this time, and moving fees are usually higher.
Distance
The distance traveled by the transport vessel will be a crucial element in deciding the moving cost. The greater the distance between the origin and the destination, the higher the shipping cost.
Moving household possessions from the United States to Paris, for example, will be less expensive than moving from the United States to the Marshall Islands.
Because of the distance to the specified ports, your current location in the United States will also influence the shipping cost. Moving from California would be less expensive than moving from New York.

Are there import duties for household items?
The Republic of the Marshall Islands is located in Oceania, and it’s made up of five islands and twenty-nine separate atolls (1). Though controlled by the U.S. after World War II, the founding of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands granted the Marshall Islands independence in 1979. Through the Compact of Free Association signed in 1983, it became a U.S. associated state. It’s home to the famous Bikini Atoll, where a series of now well-known atomic bomb tests were carried out between 1946 and 1958 (2).
Turning to the question of import duties for household items, the only information provided by the Division of Customs, Treasury, Revenue, and Taxation concerns small amounts of personal luggage (3). When traveling to the Marshall Islands, items such as toiletries, jewelry, clothing and up to 300 cigarettes or 75 cigars (only if for personal use) are exempted from import duties. You can also bring in up to two liters of alcohol, belongings for personal use valued up to $300 USD and/or gifts up to $300 USD without paying duty.
Unfortunately, that is where listed exemptions for household goods end, with no duty relief reported for full shipments of household items (4). That being said, charges for these types of belongings aren’t included on the duty schedule supplied by customs. Therefore, whether you should expect to pay import duties is far from certain. If duties do apply, the amounts charged aren’t provided either - so you should contact customs for more information.

Are there paperwork requirements for household items?
Here again customs doesn’t give much in the way of details, only mentioning that the Bill of Lading and an Entry Certificate will be required. Invoices from the vendor and information from the shipper (count and load data) are also mandated. However, these regulations appear to govern commercial imports, not shipments of personal household goods. Yet, this isn’t entirely clear - so you should discuss the question with customs.
It is certain that within a sensible timeframe after your shipment’s arrival, you (or an authorized representative) must visit Revenue and Taxation, the Office of the Chief of Customs Division or another location appointed by the Chief (5).
Are there import duties for vehicles?
The duty rate for imported vehicles falls into two different categories - vehicles that have a Kelly Blue Book (KBB) value listed and those which do not. For vehicles with a KBB value, a 15% duty will be levied on this reported value. However, if you have a purchase receipt for the vehicle stating a higher amount, then this figure will be used to calculate import duty. A minimum duty charge of $1,500 is enforced, regardless of the vehicle’s value. For vehicles where a KBB value isn’t found (and presumably no purchase receipt is available), the duty will be $1,500 for used vehicles and $2,500 for new vehicles (6).
Are there paperwork requirements for vehicles?
There’s a lack of information about the documents required when shipping a vehicle to the Marshall Islands. You may need your passport, the Original Bill of Lading, a valid visa and your driver’s license. The vehicle’s title and registration may be requested as well, plus the purchase receipt. Proof of insurance coverage and permission to reside in the country (or proof of an established place of residence) could also be obligatory documentation (7).
However, since customs doesn’t supply an official accounting of their documentation regulations - this list isn’t definite. Consequently, you’re urged to discuss this matter with customs, to determine the precise requirements for your situation.
