Lithuania International Moving Services
International moving is the process which a business or individual relocates to a different country. This often proves to be a long process. To make it less burdensome, some movers provide international moving services. In case you are planning to move to Lithuania, a reliable international moving company will assist you to safely ship your household goods and will even ship your car to Lithuania.
How Much Does It Cost to Move to Lithuania?
The cost of moving internationally to Lithuania can range anywhere from $2,000-$12,000 depending on a variety of factors such as the size of move, total distance, route, transportation method, and current market trends.
In addition to the size of the house that must be emptied before export, several other factors affect the cost of exporting home items to Lithuania. In Lithuania, it can cost anywhere between $4100 and $9,800 to ship a two-bedroom house.
There are other factors to consider besides the size of the house. Packing and unpacking as well as working with an immigration lawyer are all crucial considerations for exports overseas.
Packing and Unpacking
Packing and unloading may be charged by some moving companies, but not all. It is common to feel forced to move abroad when deciding to relocate. International shipments require clearance. A moving company is also responsible for ensuring that no illegal materials are delivered along with the goods imported.
Because of this, many movers pack and unload their own belongings. Their firm would suffer a negative impact if they were fined for shipping unlawful products. Additional charges may be incurred for this service. Packing supplies are still necessary if you choose to package your own items to save money.
Lawyer
An overseas move can be complicated and uncertain when it comes to paperwork requirements. People often seek legal advice in this regard. This is handled by attorneys. Having their expertise on hand will make the operation much faster and easier. They will, however, charge for their services. Depending on where you live and whether you prefer hourly legal counsel or case-by-case counsel, a decent lawyer can be quite pricey.
International Shipping
To cross foreign borders successfully, one must plan ahead. Getting the things onto the truck is not the end of the process. Relocating internationally is a seamless process if you hire an experienced moving company. International shipping will be your most costly expense. It might cost from $1,000 to $10,000 to ship items internationally.

Does Lithuania charge duties?
Unfortunately, there is conflicting information regarding duties for your household belongings. One trustworthy source says that these can be brought into Lithuania without paying duty, if you’ve owned and personally used them for at least the last six months. You also must bring in any additional shipments within six months of the first shipment’s arrival (1).
The International Association of Movers disagrees, saying that duty exemption is only available for temporary imports. Though you’ll only be permissioned to keep your goods in the country for one year - this can be renewed on an annual basis for as long as you like. If you decide to permanently import your household belongings instead, then duty will apply - along with value-added tax (VAT) of 20% (2).
In this type of situation where the information available isn’t consistent, it’s best to simply contact customs - in order to learn what fees your shipment will incur.

Does Lithuania require specific paperwork?
You’ll need to have your passport and a full packing list, as customs will ask for these documents. A pro-forma invoice and your Original Bill of Lading or Air Waybill are also needed. A Convention Marchandises Routiers (CMR ) is mandatory as well (3).
In addition, you must apply for and obtain an Economic Operators Registration and Identification number. Customs will also request a Work Permit, Residence Visa, detailed inventory and a Certificate of Residence Change (4).
Does Lithuania charge duties on vehicles?
At least according to one source, you’ll incur expensive import duties (as well as taxes), if you wish to bring a vehicle into the country. The exact rate you’ll pay is based on the model, year of manufacture, monetary value and engine size for your vehicle (5). Due to the significant fees involved, some sources recommend that you forego importing your vehicle, when relocating to Lithuania (6).
However, other sources vary widely, listing import duties at 10% and VAT at 18% (for vehicles made less than 7 years ago). While certainly an added cost, these fees are far from being prohibitively expensive - especially compared to the duties imposed by some other countries (7).
Does Lithuania require paperwork for vehicles?
If you choose to proceed with your vehicle importation, then some paperwork must be given to customs. This includes an application form, which the Protocol Department has approved. Proof of insurance and your customs clearance declaration are also required. Customs will also request the vehicle’s registration, some form of ID and paperwork proving ownership of the vehicle (8).
Customs clearance for household items and vehicles can be complex, and the requirements are subject to change. The above coverage also isn’t exhaustive in scope. Therefore, you’re advised to talk over your upcoming move with customs, to ensure your relocation goes smoothly.
