As one of the strongest economies in Europe today, Germany is obviously a popular relocation stop for many people looking for better employment opportunities.
If you’re thinking about moving to Germany for work, here’s what you need to know.
You May Need a Visa
Citizens not part of the EU or EEA (which includes countries such as Iceland, Norway, and Lichtenstein) will need a work visa in order to move to Germany for work. If you are a citizen from an EU or EEA country, then all you need is a valid ID or passport, and you can freely enter the country, find accommodation and start working.
Other countries that do not need to get a work visa include:
- New Zealand
- Republic of Korea
However, though you may not need a work visa, you will need a work/residence permit. You can apply for the permit from a Federal Employment Agency. Note that you do not always need a binding job offer prior to entering the country, but can look for employment opportunities after you move.
Consider Shipping Your Belongings
Whether you already have a job on the table or plan on looking for one once you arrive in Germany, consider shipping your household items and vehicle. Germany doesn’t impose any import taxes when you are bringing in household items or vehicles for related purposes.
A professional shipping company can help you bring your belongings to Germany from anywhere in the world. Here are some benefits of going with the pros of moving to Germany:
- It’s a lot cheaper than if you were to transfer your belongings by yourself, or buy new ones once in the country;
- These companies offer very inclusive services, so even packing can be taken care of, freeing a lot of your time for other things like finding the best flights or researching for accommodation;
- It’s a safe and secure option, as you not only get a professional team that knows how to handle all your items, but your shipment is also protected by insurance.
