Denmark International Moving Services
International moving is the process of relocating to another country. The need to do so is brought on by various factors which may sometimes require a quick and abrupt move. While it is possible to make the move in a solo capacity, wisdom dictates use of international moving services. These are offered by professionals who are not only able to transport your goods, they can also ship your car to your new destination.
How Much Does It Cost to Move to Denmark?
The cost of moving internationally to Denmark (DK) can range anywhere from $2,000-$12,000 depending on various factors such as the size of move, total distance, route, transportation method, and current market trends.
The average cost of relocating to Copenhagen can range from $4,500 to $6,200 for a home with 1-2 bedrooms to $8,100 to $10,900 for a home with 3–4 bedrooms. There are additional charges to take into account, such as moving season, shipping prices, legal fees, moving insurance, visa fees, and storage costs:
Moving Size
Your total cost for shipping will be calculated based on the total weight of your items. Your moving fees are going to be calculated based on the volume or weight of your possessions, in addition to the mode of transport that you choose.
Total Distance
The size of your home heavily influences the cost of moving. Moving prices are primarily determined by the number of items you're transporting. If you're relocating a lot of stuff, the cost will be more than if you're transferring a smaller number of items. Moving a large number of objects necessitates not only a large number of people but also unique packing materials for the bulkier items, all of which raise the overall transportation costs significantly. Consequently, the first step in reducing moving costs is to limit the number of things you own. You'll be able to stay inside your relocation budget if you do this.
Transportation
The mode of transportation you select plays a significant role in the overall cost of your overseas relocation. Some movers offer the following shipping options for their customers' belongings:
- Air Transport
- Sea Transport
- Container shipping
It's possible to save money on transportation costs by using as many modes of transportation as possible, but the price the weight of your items primarily determines the price.

Will you pay import duty when moving to Denmark?
You can be exempted from the standard import duties, but certain stipulations apply. You must have owned and used your household belongings for at least one year. Your shipment also must arrive no later than 12 months after moving to Denmark. Customs requires that you be registered as living in the country as well, before your goods enter port. If you meet all of these requirements, your shipment won’t incur import duty. However, you still aren’t allowed to sell, lend to others or get rid of these belongings while in the country (1).

What paperwork does customs require?
Customs will ask for your packing list (written in English) and Original Bill of Lading or Air Waybill. You must also provide your passport, and a detailed inventory. However, this inventory may only be necessary, if there’s alcohol included in your shipment (2).
Will you pay import duty on your vehicle?
Duty-free importation of your vehicle is offered by customs, if you’ve owned and used it for at least the last six months. You also can’t sell, lend to others or get rid of your vehicle during your first year in the country (3).
While receiving duty exemption is favorable, additional fees will still be levied on your vehicle. Unfortunately, vehicle registration tax (called Registreringsafgift) in Denmark is burdensome, and depends upon the purchase price of your vehicle. For vehicles procured for less than 81,700 kroner, you’ll pay a registration tax of 105%. For vehicles purchased for more than 81,700 kroner - the rate jumps up to 150% (4).
What paperwork does customs require for your vehicle?
When bringing your vehicle into Denmark, you’ll need the registration and documents showing insurance coverage. Customs also must see paperwork proving you’ll be residing in Denmark for a minimum of one year (5).
In order to pay the required vehicle registration tax, additional paperwork is needed. This includes forms showing that your vehicle has passed its technical inspection, which are issued by the Statens Bilinspektion. Application Form 21.009 and proof of money on deposit to cover the registration tax must also be provided (6).
While this overview is an excellent start, it is hardly exhaustive - as other documents and regulations will apply. When shipping your household goods and vehicle into Denmark, only by speaking to customs on your own, can you be sure that you’ve met all of their requirements for your items.
Tips on how to make your international move easier
Moving overseas is often perceived to be such a hassle but it can be stress-free, especially when you choose a moving company that does its job well. To have a great experience and easy time relocating, you need to prepare your goods in a manner that will allow for easy packing and unpacking. You also need to prepare your documents so as to enable easy processing.
Liaise with the moving company and let them have all the necessary details well-in-advance. Also communicate your expectations as this enables them deliver services in a way that meets or exceeds your expectations.
