Chile International Moving Services
Changes in an industry or a person’s life may cause them to relocate and move their belongings to a different country. Professional moving companies are able to provide services to individuals or companies requiring such transportation services. If you are considering making a move to Chile, you may seek the services of a company that provides international moving services. You will be able to ship your office inventory, household goods, or ship your car to Chile in a stress-free manner.
How Much Does It Cost to Move to Chile?
The cost of moving internationally to Chile can range anywhere from $2,000-$12,000 depending on a variety of factors such as the size of move, total distance, route, transportation method, and current market trends.
Chile is a narrow country located on the western edge of the South American continent. Shipping to the country can have varying costs, depending on many factors. For example, moving the contents of a two-bedroom flat to Chile might cost $3100, but it can also be as high as $9,600.
Moving insurance and the path that the shipping company will take are just two of the many variables that affect shipping costs.
Insurance
Insurance is a major part of moving and the type of insurance you get affects the moving cost, especially when you want more than the basic insurance.
Basic insurance usually provides little coverage for your things and might not lead to any reimbursement if they are damaged or lost. Especially if they will be transported over long distances, it is better to have proper coverage for your items.
Find out what the insurance policy of the company you want to hire is and then ask for a breakdown of what proper insurance will cost.
The Shipping Route
The shipping route the shipping company will take will determine how much you pay for shipping.
There are times when the shipping route is very busy due to high demand. A high demand might cause you to pay more, depending on the situation. On the other hand, if there is very little traffic on a shipping route, the shipping cost will also be high because fewer customers will have to share the total cost.
A shipping route can also incur higher shipping rates because of security. If a route is less safe than others, the moving rates will be higher.

Import duties levied by Chilean customs
If you’ll be entering Chile under a temporary Residence Visa or Work Visa - then certain conditions must be met to qualify for duty exemption. You must be working in the country for a minimum of one year. A value limit of $5,000 FOB also applies, for shipments of used household belongings. If your shipment falls under this limit, then you’ll only pay 1% tax - and import duty will be waived altogether (1).
For any portion of your shipment that is over this $5,000 FOB limit, you’ll pay the standard import duties. Keep in mind that this limit is not per shipment, but a strict total that applies no matter how many shipments you bring into Chile.

Regulations enforced by Chilean customs
If you wish to be granted duty exemption, then you must bring your household goods into Chile no later than 120 days after relocating (2).
Paperwork required by Chilean customs
You must provide your passport and Bill of Lading or Air Waybill. A detailed packing list and a separate inventory (with values included) is also required. A Work Visa good for a minimum of one year is also needed, to bring your items into the country (3). If a destination agent or shipping company (like A1 Auto Transport) will be acting on your behalf during the clearance process - then a Power of Attorney should also be submitted (4).
Import duties levied on your vehicle
You won’t be permitted to import your used vehicle, unless you have diplomatic status or are a foreign official. Otherwise, only new vehicles can be brought into Chile by foreigners - and duty exemption isn’t possible. The current duty rates aren’t listed by the trustworthy sources consulted, so contact customs to learn what fees your shipment will incur (5).
Paperwork required for your vehicle
When shipping your vehicle to Chile, you’ll need to give customs your passport and Original Bill of Lading or Air Waybill. Documents proving your ownership of the vehicle are also required. The purchase receipt or invoice and a Vehicle Identification Certificate must also be shown. You’ll be asked to provide a Cost Certificate and tax receipt as well, along with an International Police Certificate (6).
Additional paperwork and regulations will apply, to both your household goods and vehicle - so be sure to speak with customs before going ahead with your international move.
