A-1 Long Distance Moving & Storage
Any time you need to move, one of the best things you can do is partner with an experienced moving company--something that is even more important if you're moving long distance and need storage. The reason this is the case is that long distance moving can be more complex due to the requirement that the mover have operating authority throughout all the states your belongings are being transported through. As far as storage, an established company will be far more likely to help you coordinate storage in various parts of the country.
How To Find A Long Distance Mover With Appropriate Experience
There are two distinct aspects of finding a long distance mover with enough experience to handle the job professionally and capably. The first is establishing how long they've been in business and the second is checking to make sure they operate in the areas in which you'll need service.
Determining how long a moving company has been in business can be tricky since it's not typically listed on official company reports from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration or the U.S. Department of Transportation. Since this is the case, there are two things you can do. The first is to call them and ask how long they've been in business and if there's a place online where you can find customer reviews. Many company review sites will have dated reviews, which can give you a good indication of how long they've been in operation.
As far as areas of operation, any moving company that claims to operate throughout the U.S. or internationally should have dedicated web pages that mention those places and, ideally, office locations in the areas you're moving to or from. The FMCSA website has a search tool you can use to verify a company is who they say they are and to find information about insurance coverage, safety ratings, and other pertinent information that can help you make a decision.

A Mover’s Storage Solutions
As for storage options with a moving company, the same approach as above applies here. If a moving company has their own storage facilities, they should also have a central office in that area. If they do not, that doesn't necessarily mean they won't offer storage there, but that they may have to partner with a separate company to help with your storage needs. This is not altogether unheard of in the moving industry--many companies have such arrangements with local storage outfits.
