Untrained and inexperienced individuals cannot successfully ship a car to another country. It takes a great knowledge of international transport and foreign import policies to make sure the vehicle complies with the laws of the nation.
Professional overseas transport companies make it possible to have a car shipped to another country unless the vehicle is not permitted for import by Customs. Nevertheless, they do anything they can to help you fulfill the requirements set in the import policy so that the car can gain approval to enter.
So, can I ship my car to Kenya? Of course- as long as all of the right proof is provided. This also includes paying all of the duties and making sure that the car meets all of the restrictions. Stay as organized as possible as you prepare for the shipping process.
Kenya’s Vehicle Restrictions.
- The vehicle cannot be older than eight years old from the manufacture date.
- It must pass inspection for road worthiness.
- Left-handed drive vehicles are prohibited.
Import Duties and Tariffs.
- 25% CIF.
- 20% Excise duty.
- 16% VAT.
Other small duties and tariffs might be charged. Don’t be afraid to ask what the taxes are for and how their percentage rates are determined. You can even contact the Embassy of Kenya for help readying the car for its transport more efficiently. They will give you the current import duty rates and any information you need in relation to the auto import policy. By calling them a couple months in advance, you will have plenty of time to gather the appropriate documents.
