Preparing Healthy Food For The Family On Moving Day
In the midst of all the packing and moving, it can be hard to make some time to cook or make a healthy meal. Things are made worse by the fact that your refrigerator and stove are already turned off and probably even packed. However, that is not to say that people should starve on moving day because a lot of energy is required to do all that lifting and moving. Since ordering takeout can be costly and unhealthy, making a fast healthy meal is your best bet. Here are some tips on how to do just that:
Plan ahead
You can take a trip to the grocery store early that morning or the night before to pick up some essentials. The ideal meal for moving should be something that people can grab with their hands and eat while moving because of time and lack of plates and cutlery. With that in mind, the items you buy should include whole wheat wraps, hummus and vegetables, cold cuts, fresh fruits, hot dogs, hard boiled eggs and bread. With these items you can make a sandwich or any other finger foods that you like. Be sure to also get some bottled water and granola bars to boost the energy.

Have packing tools
You will not have time to prepare decorated plates of food but you can pack up some delicious and healthy snacks to eat while you pack and even during the move. Make sure you have several good coolers to store the packed food so it can stay fresh and cool. You can use zip lock bags or plastic containers to pack everybody’s lunch or dinner so that serving will be easy.

Cook early
Instead of thinking about lunch when it’s already noon, you should plan for all the meals early in the morning before the day starts. Make simple meals like soup, pasta and stew in bulk so you can eat during lunch and even for dinner. You can also cook the meals the night before and freeze them so all you will have to do is heat them up on the day of the move. Time is the only thing you don’t have on the moving day so if you can prepare the meals ahead of time, you will have saved yourself a lot of stress.
Clean out the refrigerator
Since you have to switch off the refrigerator before moving, you should try to consume all the food items inside there before moving day. However, sometimes that is not possible and you will find there is still some food. Take them all out to see what you can make with them including salads, chili and all sorts of meals to save money and time.

Order in
There is no rule against ordering take-out as long as you order healthy food and not pizza. Call a good restaurant that delivers or pay them a visit and come with packed food ready to eat, though it’s a bit costly to do so.
Making healthy food for your family may not be a priority on moving day. However, it’s important to avoid junk food because they tend to make people sluggish and lazy.
