This is How to Correctly Label Your Items
Moving houses has never been easy whether this is your first time or you have been through the experience before. For a first-time mover, you may overlook some aspects such as proper packing of your possessions or finding a moving service provider early. To reduce the emotional strain, you had better get organized. Find a reputable removals company, buy your packing materials and get down to work. Arrange your stuff, put clear labels on boxes to show what they contain and the room they belong to. On arrival at your new place of residence, you will enjoy unpacking and adjust to the new surroundings quickly.
Having mentioned labeling, how do you do it correctly?
Use colored labels
Choose different colors of stickers to represent the rooms in your present house. For instance, color blue could represent all boxes containing items from the living room while a yellow sticker could work for kitchen packing boxes. Alternatively, if you cannot find colored labels, try colored marker pens. That way, the removals team will know where to offload the boxes.
List down the contents
Beneath the room’s name, write what the box in question contains. If the label is not big enough, never mind. Use one side of the carton to list the contents. At the same time, put additional remarks that will help both the loaders and yourself. Where you have a container with fragile items, note this by inscribing the word “fragile” or “this side up” and so on.
Stick the labels tight
At times you may find that the packing carton tag starts peeling off even before the moving date. To avoid doing double work and the frustration that comes with it, secure all labels with transparent tape. Also, double the stickers by having one on top and the second one the side. Such cartons are easily identifiable.

Label your cartons numerically
Here, you can use codes from a master file. Using a separate list that also serves as your inventory, adopt a set of numbers to either represent a room or stuff in a packing box. As a carton gets filled, cross-check its contents from your list and number it accordingly. Make another copy of the checklist just in case you lose the first. You can scan or take a photo of it using your smartphone.
How to mark a carton
Immediately after you have filled-up a box, attach a sticker and write on it. Apart from having one label on top of the package and one side, put additional tags on the remaining ones. More inscriptions mean that you can see the mark no matter how the moving staff stacks the boxes during and after transportation.
There are no rules on labeling boxes while moving but professional movers can help you get this done with ease. Color codes for each room are a fantastic choice. Write each carton’s contents to avoid confusion when unpacking. Make sure all labels stick firmly; you can reinforce them with clear tape. Numerical tags from a master list also help in identifying your items.
