How does the moving company calculate the weight of your belongings?

To get the exact weight of your possessions, the moving company will go through your home to get an idea of how much must be moved. They’ll need to figure out what size truck or trucks they’ll need and how many laborers are necessary to complete the relocation. When they determine what truck to use, they weight it before it’s loaded. This is known as the tare weight. Once the moving truck is loaded with your stuff, it will be weighed again to get the gross weight. When the tare weight is subtracted from the gross weight, the movers can get the net weight. The net weight is the total weight of your belongings.

According to the AMSA, the average cost of an interstate move is about $4,300. This total is based on the traveling distance of 1,225 miles. This is assuming the weight of your belongings total weight is at 7,400lbs.
