How To Ship Your GEM
Electric cars are all the rage today, but even their superior functionality and their environmental records do not mean they should be driven the long distance home after purchase. To get that GEM home in tip top shape, the safest bet is to use the services of a reliable shipping company. The car transportation process can be very smooth or, can go very wrong, and it all depends on the choice of the car company. Here are the most important factors anyone looking to ship their vehicles must always keep in mind.
Begin with company insurance. Every reputable company will likely have insurance, but like the saying goes, the devil lies in the details. Make sure you confirm the extra details of what exactly is covered by insurance in the car and what is not. While the USDOT requires that every car transport company carries insurance, there is no limit on the amounts. Different companies have different insurance cover, so make sure the insurance coverage is sufficient, especially considering the average value of the typical electric car.
The pickup and drop details should be next on the list of things to check before settling on an automobile transport company. For interstate or local shipments, many companies will likely have a regular schedule, with shipments taking at most one week, depending on the distance. Overseas shipment could take a little longer. Make sure you understand just how long you will have to wait for the car at the other end, so as to make appropriate plans. Even then, it is always advisable to keep an open mind when it comes to expectations.
Delays often happen, many of which cannot be controlled by the people involved in the shipping process. In order to avoid misunderstanding and constant phone calls or emails, the better alternative is to go for a company that offers tracking services to their clients. Many companies will provide their clients with reference numbers with which they can log in to portals and keep track of their shipments.
With almost all companies in the industry offering much of the same services, it is the companies that look to offer the most convenience that will always win the race. Look for companies that offer their clients door to door delivery. While the terminal based shipping might be cheap, door to door saves the additional effort, time and money involved in having to pick up the vehicle at a warehouse. Another service that many people never really consider is the storage capacity of the company they deal with. For instance, if one’s car happens to arrive earlier than anticipated, will they be in a position to hold it safely until it can be picked up?
Another critical element in the auto shipping process is the type of carriers the vehicle will be transported in. The choice will ultimately depend on the budget, personal preferences and the type of car being transported. Normally, there are two types of carriers available, open and enclosed. For the electric car, it is perhaps better to go for the enclosed transportation.
