Moving to another nation is always a little terrifying. Not just because youโ€™re moving to foreign territory, but because the cost of moving may intimidate you. Luckily, moving services arenโ€™t very costly and actually, theyโ€™re quite affordable for most budgets. In fact, itโ€™s cheaper to hire experienced movers than it is to carry out an international move alone. If you do decide to purchase moving services (as you should) and yet you are worried about the costs, there are ways to reduce what youโ€™re expected to pay for their professional services.

As you search online for the right international moving company to hire, make sure you compare the quotes you receive by either calling in or using the moversโ€™ online calculators. Although these arenโ€™t exact rates, theyโ€™re rough figures that are of great assistance as you compare moving companies. All movers have the right to set their own rates. Nevertheless, most of them base their moving service costs off the same criteria. The total cost of your moving services is determined by and includes but isnโ€™t limited to, the current cost of fuel, the weight of your things to ship off, the time of year, the services you choose to purchase, and other minor details.

How to Reduce the Cost of Moving

Pack On Your Own and Choose Your Moving Services Wisely...

If you wish to keep the cost of moving down as low as possible, there are ways to do so. Although itโ€™s in your best interest to purchase full moving services if itโ€™s at all possible, you can choose to pack your own things and to prepare for the relocation without professional assistance. This means that youโ€™ll be responsible for packing your own belongings which will take a significant amount of time and youโ€™ll need to buy the proper packaging materials.

As you start to pack your things, go through them to decide whether some of your belongings are worth shipping to Germany or not. If theyโ€™re broken or useless, get rid of them. If theyโ€™re still useful but you donโ€™t need them anymore, sell them online or in a garage sale. You may also choose to donate them. If you have the time and energy, holding a garage sale is a great way to lessen the amount of stuff you need to ship as well as earn some extra cash before your move.

Aside from getting rid of things to reduce the amount of weight you plan to ship over to Germany, there are ways you can cut down the costs you plan to spend on packaging supplies. Buying various sizes of boxes, packaging tape and specific supplies is essential but you can refrain from buying packing peanuts, bubble wrap and other fillers. Instead of using the recommended materials to fill in empty space within your boxes or to wrap your breakables, you can use linens, clothes, newspaper and even paper plates. This will greatly help to reduce the price you pay for packaging materials and supplies.

Choose to Ship Your Stuff by Ground and Ship Transport

When you have your things shipped to another nation, you have three options. You can choose to ship your stuff over by plan, ship or truck. In most cases, youโ€™ll need to combine the efforts of ship and ground transport especially if you expect door to door delivery. However, these transport methods are the cheapest way to get your things from Point A to Point B. Air shipping tends to be much too expensive for most people, although it is the quickest way to send things over to another country.

Ground and ship transport methods give you the option to have your stuff sent through either open or enclosed shipping services. Open air methods are available for motor vehicles and although it leaves the vehicle open to inclement weather, it is absolutely safe as well as your least expensive choice. As for enclosed services, theyโ€™re available for vehicles as well as your belongings. This usually consists of putting your packed things within a large shipping container. If you choose to send a vehicle over through this method, it too can fit into the container as long as you chose a large enough size. With open air shipping, your car must remain empty but with enclosed shipping, you can fill your vehicle as well as the empty space in the container with your things as long as theyโ€™re permitted into Germany and packed securely.

Anyone you ship your stuff through will offer insurance protection during the transport. This is mandatory for all licensed movers and transporters. Make sure that the entire value of your things is covered. By state law, movers are only expected to provide the minimum insurance coverage but will usually offer larger protection plans for a small upcharge. In the case of an accident, itโ€™s best to have full coverage despite the small extra fee youโ€™ll likely have to pay.
