What Is the Best Method of Motorcycle Transport?
There isn’t a method of motorcycle transport that is better than the rest. Actually, there are three different methods of shipping that bike owners often purchase. All three methods provide different levels of protection.
- The open air shipping method is the cheapest. The motorcycle is secured to an open air trailer, leaving it exposed to the outdoors while en route. Many customers prefer this method if the bike must only be delivered a short distance. It is uncommon for the motorcycle to suffer harm with this method of transport, but insurance coverage is provided.
- The enclosed method of transport is highly preferred and only slightly more expensive than open air shipping methods. The bike will be secured to a pallet and placed within a large shipping container. The container will often hold other vehicles inside as well. This transport method also protects against the possibility of vandalism and theft.
- The crated shipping method is best for transporting valuable motorcycles. However, it requires a little more preparation before the transport. You may be asked to remove the bike’s handlebars and mirrors. When the bike is being secured for the shipping process, it is placed on a wooden pallet and slid inside a small shipping container. This prevents the motorcycle from movement during its delivery.
