Car Shipping FAQ’s
How far in advance should I schedule transport?
You should begin to contact auto transporters at least 2 weeks before the date you need the vehicle picked up. Be prepared to work with the carrier's schedule as it is unlikely that they can pick the vehicle up on the exact date you request, although the sooner you call for service the better.
How long will it take to transport a vehicle?
Many things will impact the time it takes for delivery of a vehicle. Times will vary due to customers picking their vehicles up on time, the distance between the pickup and delivery locations, weather, traffic and even necessary carrier maintenance while in transit. In general you can expect transport to take 10 days to 2 weeks when shipping coast to coast, north to south 3-7 days and internationally may take up to 28 days or longer due to customs and port delays.
What type of carrier should my car be shipped on?
For standard motor vehicles, open carrier are the most commonly used as well as the lowest cost to transport cars. For exotic and classic cars, enclosed carriers will offer a secure environment during shipment.
Should my gas tank be emptied or full for transport?
Since car shipping calculates the weight of the vehicle when adding the price, the fuel should be run down to about a quarter tank of fuel only.
