Moving whether it be short or long distance is an adventure. But it is a difficult, time consuming, expensive, and stressful adventure. With our busy lives in today’s society, it can be even more stressful just finding the time to pack and make multiple trips to a new house. Long distance moving, in particular, can make the experience even more expensive. There are multiple ways to get moving finished such as doing it yourself or hiring others to help you. But which way is the best? The choice for everyone is different, but there are advantages and disadvantages to consider when deciding how to move long distance.
Some advantages to having someone help you, such as a moving company, would be the benefits that you would receive. The benefits of hiring people are that the movers would have more experience and resources that they can use. Movers know how to pack items the right way and can find your new location easily. You do not have to worry about going out and buying a great amount of packing equipment, so it saves you time and can relieve some of the clients’ stress. Also, if anything is broken during the move than most companies will compensate the customer for any damages caused when they had the items. This can make moving a lot less stressful and frustrating because most of the physical response is taken from the family or person moving. Imagine this-you’re packing all your belongings, your kids are screaming, you’re trying to make sure all your belongings are together. Mistakenly, you pack your computer the wrong way and when you make it to your new house you find that your computer is broken and you now have to fix it or buy a new one. With a moving company, the movers would have packed your computer the right way and if it were broken along the way the company would most likely pay to have it fixed or pay for a new item. This is especially important to consider when moving long distance because the person would have to have plenty of help to get the job finished. So hiring a moving company or some other form of moving help might not be a bad idea for many people.
Not everyone chooses to hire a company to help, so what are the advantages of moving yourself? First, you can save the money that you would spend on a company for other expenses such as gas money for the move. This is important for moving long distance because you might need a little more gas money than a short distance move would require. Along the line of saving money for a long distance move, people could save money because they would not be paying extra money for extra miles. For some people, they feel more comfortable having control of their belongings, so hiring a moving company could create more stress for that type of person and move on their own would be the best. The person would have complete control over how they pack, when they start packing, and what method they will use to move their belongings. This way the person would not have to worry where everything is located on the moving vehicle and they could organize their belongings in their own way.
Both of these choices have disadvantages along the lines of item safety, price, and stressfulness. When hiring a company there are many factors that could increase expenses such as distance and time. The farther away and longer it takes for the company to pack your items the more it will increase the price of what you will have to pay the company. On the other hand, moving on your own can cost you some money after buying moving supplies such as boxes and if you break something that you will have to replace on your own. With a moving company, they would provide all the supplies needed and replace any items that might end up broken. Both these choices can be stressful because if you choose to hire a company then you are trusting them with all of your belongings. When moving on your own you would have to plan and organize everything that the company would do yourself, for example, you would have to find a mode of transportation that would be able to withstand the move. For a person that does not know a lot about moving finding the right vehicle could be difficult and stressful.
Moving is a stressful event that happens at some point in everyone’s life, so it is important that when that time comes that you know what options you have. There are two options hiring a company or doing it yourself and not everyone benefits from either option. The first option is hiring a company to help you move which has many advantages such as taking some of the stress off of the person moving. Most moving companies already have all the supplies needed for the actual moving process such as boxes, vehicles, and people to actually help with packing and unpacking items. But it can be expensive when hiring a company if someone is moving a long distance. The reason for this is that the prices increase when the distance increases or if the person has a lot of things to move. Option two is moving on your own which can be less expensive, but more stressful. The person would not have to worry about the price increase depending on distance or time. On the other hand, they would have to organize, plan, and pack everything that a company would do for them and that makes it more stressful on the mover. Overall when moving long distance it truly depends on the person for which option is the best because everyone is different. It is important to remember that moving is stressful and will cost something whichever option you choose, but it is also an adventure that leads to new beginnings.
